My thought about motherhood

Time goes by, I’ve been a mother for 21 months. I still don’t know whether I’m doing it good or bad or just fine. It’s not like in my job, they do review in periodic time and  feedback my performance . I clearly understand whether I have to change to a new method or perhaps new framework or just improve in the path I’ve choose..

Nurturing a child is probably the most complex and important task I’ve ever done. It needs both logic and feeling. It is so important that I can’t take the risk to not doing it right. The future of one important person in my life is on stake, I have to learn to be a good Mom!!

The question in my head is.. ” what is the requirement of a good mom?”, “What should I do/teach to my little baby?”,”why is it so hard just to give something that I know will be good for him, like a healthy food?” I know, I lack of knowledge here.. I need to find it somewhere, but found asking with other friends is not the right option (everybody seem to have their on believe, that I can’t understand)

Then, I start the journey with a new hobby, reading.. Something I really don’t like before.. but now, I find it very..very..very interesting. I found lots of story, other success people experience and what interested me is what their mom did and taught them. I always believe that mom has a very strong capability in shaping their child future. Here is my answer…

Social networking for company??

This is an article about how CIO start to put social networking into their business and company. I found pro and con about this issue and I think Nickolaisen has a great opinion about this.  I agree that social networking is the new era of technology that has to be developed in business. It’s not only a threat, but it also had lots of potentials that can benefit us.

Creative versus logic for child education

Lately, I’ve been thinking about which education should I prepare for my little precious boy that has reach 20 months. Many resources says that the era has changed. Education has to change too.. A graduate from reputable university or school is no longer guarantee of a good position or a promising career.

Now, the key ingredient of success is “Creativity”. One thing missing in my education when I was developed. I remember that I thought that logic will rules everything. Smart means that if you can get the first position on the class chart, if you could master the math, calculus, physics, science and all the “logic” subject. I was always taught in directive method, the teacher gave all the concept, the solution, then I just understand it and apply it for similar problems. There is only one right solution for every problem, other answer was judge as a wrong answer.

These methods has killed my “creativity” ability. I can’t freely speak up my idea or comment because I was too afraid to make silly mistakes.

Now, if everybody was taught that way, non of us will able to invent anything. We just preserve what we have and not improve anything. I understand that creativity is needed for the next generation.

Ok.. so what’s the problem?

Beberapa minggu terakhir, browser saya selalu disibukkan dengan “googling” preschool dan sekolah disetiap akhir pekan. Ada banyak sekali sekolah yang menawarkan  berbagai macam kurikulum dan fasilitas. saya mencari berbagai macam jenis sekolah, apa plus dan negative nya dan apa kurikulumnya, dsb

Pertanyaannya.. mana yang cocok untuk anak saya?

saya yakin setiap sekolah merasa kurikulumnya adalah yang terbaik. masalahnya bagaimana caranya mencari yang cocok?

Toddler feeding is harder than any exam I’ve gone through…why??

Fabian is 20 months old now.. It’s getting harder and harder for me and the babysitter to feed him. Especially when his babysitter is having a leave for Christmas holiday. I have no clue at all on how to persuade him to open his  mouth. I’ve tried all trick and tips I know, but he just simply not interested in eating. I’ve made different and variation of food, I’ve gave him the most interesting toys that he really like, I’ve tried to be nice, I’ve tried to be firm,… All methods are not working! I’m desperate now…

I have no idea this simple task was an excellent exercise to make mother more patient and consistent. I’ve read a lot about child brain and how to raise a child to become a smart boy. I just can’t believe, I miss this part..

If I compare with the hardest subject in my collage time, it was far more difficult and complex. I guess this is why a relationship of two or more people has always complex case. In exam, you just have to work hard, study hard.. you will achieve it.. but in this relationship context, you have to get the other party has the same perspective to be success. And believe me…that’s the hardest part!

You know why is it so hard? this is my contemplations result..

Survey preschool — open house di High Scope kuningan

Jumat 2 minggu lalu, saya minta ijin ke atasan untuk datang terlambat ke kantor. Saya melihat ada acara open house di highscope kuningan. Acaranya dimulai jam 9 sampai jam 12. Beberapa hal yang saya dapat dari open house ini:

Pertama, mereka menunjukkan bahwa ada penilitian semakin cepat anak dikenalkan kepada pendidikan, maka semakin cepat synapsis di dalam otak terbentuk, terutama didaerah otak kanan. Peneliti mencoba melihat aktifitas dari otak bayi yang baru saja keluar dari kandungan ibunya.. semua bagian otak yang berhubungan dengan panca indera bekerja membentuk synapsis dengan cepatnya. Walau seorang bayi yang  tidak dapat berbicara, dia bisa merasakan perbedaan bila sedang diberi stimulasi oleh ibu, atau sedang di"cuekin" oleh ibunya dengan menunjukkan mimik muka yang berbeda.

Di sebuah video yang diambil dari BBC news, dikatakan bahwa ada jendela waktu dimana proses belajar dapat berjalan dengan lebih mudah dan cepat. Tergantung dari  bagian mana dari otak, ada yang berkembang dengan mudah di umur 0-3 tahun, ada yang 3-5 tahun, dsb. Bila melewati jendela waktu tersebut, bukan berarti tidak bisa, tapi akan memakan waktu dan usaha yang lebih banyak.. Jadi menurut penelitian tersebut, sangat penting untuk anak memulai sekolah di usia sedini mungkin.

Ternyata.. aku lebih tinggi di spatial dan logical…dan sangat mengenaskan si natural… cocok dengan pendidikanku selama ini..

Cara bermain untuk mengembangkan bakat anak

Sebagai ibu yang baru, memilih mainan anak adalah satu hal yang cukup memusingkan. Pertama harga mainan yang cukup membuat “bangkrut”, karena bila terlalu murah keamanannya diragukan. Kedua, pilihan ibu berbeda dengan pilihan anak, mainan yang terlihat menarik, berwarna dan terlihat bermanfaat, malah tidak pernah disentuh oleh anaknya sendiri. Ketiga, pengetahuan yang terbatas mengenai mainan yang cocok dengan usia anak sehingga pemilihan mainan kadang tidak sesuai dan mainan tersebut tidak dapat dimainkan atau tidak bermanfaat terhadap perkembangan anaknya.
Dengan pemikiran ini, saya berharap untuk mendapatkan jawaban dari seminar yang diadakan Vitalac “cara bermain untuk mengembangkan bakat anak”. Dua hal yang menjadi inti dari seminar ini, yaitu mainan apa yang cocok untuk masing-masing tahapan usia anak dan yang kedua bagaimana cara memilih cara bermain atau mainan yang sesuai minat dan mengembangkan bakat anak. Lalu apa yang saya dapat?
